Grand Slam Lights up LeLacheur as Spinners Win
Spinners take down first-place Vermont to close out dramatic homestand - back at LeLacheur this Thursday!
The Lowell Spinners overcame the Vermont Lake Monsters (19-9) on Monday at LeLacheur Park with an exhilarating last inning, pushing Lowell to a record of 10-20.
The energy at LeLacheur Park was serene tonight, with a lighter yet comfortable crowd for a Monday game.
Zach Geerstma put the Lake Monsters on the board in the second inning, pressuring the Spinners. In the bottom of the fourth, Nic Lembo tied the game 1-1 with an RBI triple to right field, bringing home Jack Quigley.

The Spinners turned to the bullpen to start the fifth, with Rees Heigle replacing Danny DiTullio on the mound. During that frame, Vermont took a 2-1 lead when Tyler Wiltsey scored on a play where Jake Dunlap grounded out to second base, simultaneously advancing Bryan Richman to third.
“Lets Go Spinners” chant came through from the left crowd as Quigley got comfortable on the plate. At the bottom of the fifth, Lembo singled to center field, pushing Quigley to third and Patrick Connors to home.
The offense kept the pressure on when Esteban Dessureault hit an RBI single back to the box. The pitcher’s defensive blunder proved costly, allowing both Quigley and Lembo to cross the plate.
At the top of the sixth, Josh Bryant subbed in for Heigle on the mound. Shortly after, the Lake Monsters responded with a gritty rally to tighten the score to 5-4.
In the bottom of the sixth, Quinn Murphy pushed the score to 5-5, driving in Lorenzo Camilleri from third. Lembo with 2 RBI to make it 6-5 Spinners.
With the bags juiced and the atmosphere electric, Esteban Dessureault launched a grand slam to break the game open, putting the Spinners ahead 10-5 as he cleared the diamond.
At the top of the eighth inning, the Lake Monsters narrowed the score to 9-10.
Anthony Mateo came in at the end of the eighth inning, finished the job for the spinners, maintaining the lead, and striking out what was left of the Lake Monsters offense.

“We played the team with the best record in the league, and we took two out of three from them, and every game was tooth and nail and came down to the wire, so to win the series is a big deal for us, because we're sort of like an airplane gradually descending off a runway, playing our best baseball” said Head Coach Kevin Graber.
The Spinners return home Thursday as they kickoff Fourth of July Weekend, a series against Norwich Sea Unicorns, with gubernatorial candidate Mike Minogue throwing out the first pitch, scheduled for 7 pm. Fireworks will be in attendance, occurring after the game.
