A Weekend for the Ages
A walk-off win, a Red Sox legend, and record crowds. Inside the Spinners' unforgettable June homestand.
For five days in early June, LeLacheur Park felt like the center of the universe. Baseball is back in Mill City, and the Spinners packed the homestand with comeback drama, a Red Sox legend, lightsabers, and a whole lot of kids.
Walk-Off Thriller
Thursday, June 4 · vs. Norwich Sea Unicorns
The homestand opened with instant drama. Trailing late against the Norwich Sea Unicorns, the Spinners came storming back and walked it off, 5-4, sending the LeLacheur faithful home on their feet. If that was a sign of things to come, Mill City is in for a summer.
Johnny Damon Night
Saturday, June 6
Saturday belonged to a Red Sox World Series hero. Spinners owner and 2004 champion Johnny Damon came home to Lowell, and the city answered. More than 3,100 fans poured through the gates. Damon met fans at a sold-out Sea Dog Brew Pen meet-and-greet, signed autographs, posed for photos, and christened the Swampland Kids Zone dunk tank. The first 500 fans through the gates took home a Johnny Damon bobblehead to mark the night.
Star Wars Night
Sunday, June 7
Sunday, the Force was strong at LeLacheur. Star Wars Night brought lightsaber duels, themed contests, and a few surprise character appearances that sent kids (and plenty of grown-ups) reaching for their phones. Jedi and younglings filled the concourse, proving Spinnertainment knows no galaxy.
Education Day
Monday, June 8 · 11:00 AM first pitch
Monday morning, the ballpark went back to school. Education Day welcomed students from across the Merrimack Valley for an 11 a.m. first pitch. For many, it was their very first Spinners game. Between the cheers and the big smiles, it was a perfect reminder of what this comeback is all about: making memories for the next generation of Mill City fans.
The homestand is over, but we're just getting started.
The Spinners hit the road June 9-15, then come home Tuesday, June 16 vs. Nashua. Don't miss Greek Heritage Night on Wednesday, June 17. The first 500 fans get a Golden Greek Harry Agganis bobblehead.
