Shawn is serving in his second year as President of the organization but is in
his ninth season with Lowell.
Smith is also in his second season as President & General Manager of
the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the Double A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays.
During his tenure in Lowell, the Spinners organization sold out every game
since the mid-point of the 1999 season and won two of Minor League Baseball's
highest honors, the Larry MacPhail Promotional Trophy and Baseball America's Bob
Freitas Award. In 1997, Shawn was named the NY-Penn League's Executive of
the Year.
Smith serves on the Eastern League's Board of Directors and has been invited
to speak at various Baseball seminars. Smith previously served as the
General Manager for Minor League clubs in both the Houston Astros and
Philadelphia Phillies organizations.
He has been the point person in developing three new ballparks – in Auburn,
NY, Batavia, NY, and in Lowell, MA. In New Hampshire Shawn has been
part of the renovation of Gill Stadium, in Manchester, NH, as well the planning and development of
the Manchester, NH, Riverfront Stadium set to open in April of 2004.
A native of Charlotte, N.C., Shawn graduated from Purdue University, and
later earned his master's degree from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public
Communications at Syracuse University. He lives in New Hampshire with his
wife Kimberly and daughter Reagan.
