Revolving Museum and Spinners Partner to Put New Spin on Baseball
Lowell teens create public artwork display/game as tribute to Joann Weber
LOWELL, MA – The Lowell Spinners, Class-A Affiliate of the World Series Champion Boston Red Sox, are happy to have partnered with the Revolving Museum and two local teen artists to bring a public art display entitled “Baseball Ball Toss Game,” that is located in the Gator Pit at Edward A. LeLacheur Park.
The 16 foot high by 12 foot wide interactive artwork invites the public by tossing a ball into a series of holes in the artwork that represent homeruns, triples, doubles and singles so you can actually play a game of baseball. The opening festivities and activation of the public art game will take place Wednesday, Aug. 6 from 6-7 p.m.
“We appreciate the Spinners’ partnership and support,” said Jerry Beck, Revolving Museum Founder/Artistic Director. “We are thrilled to be a part of the Spinners extraordinary success, getting the youth involved.”
The public artwork is dedicated to the memory of Joann Weber who was a big fan of art and baseball. Two Lowell High School graduates, T Stover and Toai Thach, created the artwork.
“Our main goal in tackling this project was to show recognition of The Revolving Museum, as well as the Spinners baseball team and their history here in Lowell,” Stover said. “Being the 10th anniversary of the Spinners playing at LeLacheur Park, we felt it was also important to recognize the park itself and the people inside of it that make it special.”
The art features several of the former Spinners who have gone onto success at the big league level, including the first (Wilton Veras) and some of the more recent (Jonathan Papelbon, Jacoby Ellsbury). Also featured on the piece are LeLacheur Park legends such as the Dogman and Canaligator family.
“The beautiful piece of interactive art encompasses so much about who the Spinners are,” said Jon Goode, Lowell Spinners Vice President of Corporate Communication. “It only adds to the great Spinnertainment available at LeLacheur Park on a nightly basis and is a great tribute to Joann.”
The design is located in the Gator Pit, the Spinners’ pre-game group outing area. A limited amount of availability remains for Gator Pit outings by contacting the Lowell Spinners Ticket Office at 978-459-1702.
