LOWELL SPINNERS CONTINUE ELIMINATING THE YANKEES

Yankees Elimination Program continues grows to 100 teams in second year

LOWELL, MA – The Lowell Spinners, Class A Affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, are very excited to announce that they will continue eliminating the Yankees in New England.

Originally developed as a response to the heartbreak and taunting children assigned to Yankees youth baseball and softball teams face, the Yankees Elimination Promotion (Y.E.P.) eliminated 76 Yankees teams in 2006, replacing them with Spinners teams.

The Spinners launched the Yankees Elimination Promotion with three communities signed up in 2006. This year, 43 teams have already independently contacted the Spinners to confirm their 2007 Y.E.P. participation even before this announcement could be made.

This year’s Yankees Elimination Promotion will be limited to 100 teams on a first come, first served basis. Through Y.E.P., the Spinners will donate $25,000 into the youth baseball and softball community.

“We started the Yankees Elimination Promotion in response to the stories of children refusing to play, losing interest and the harassment these young athletes faced whenever they wore their Yankees uniform,” said Tim Bawmann, Vice President/GM of the Lowell Spinners. “This season there seems to be an endless demand for a spot on our 2007 Y.E.P. roster. We’re excited to help bring a little joy to young athletes across New England again this season.”

In exchange for their cooperation, the Spinners are donating new hats and $200 to cover the cost of the new uniforms to each youth baseball team. The youth Spinners teams will also be invited to play on the field before a game this summer, and the Spinners have also agreed to work with each youth baseball organization and assist them in their fundraising initiatives.

The hottest item in the Lowell Spinners Team Store this off-season has been the Y.E.P. t-shirt, of which a portion on the proceeds are donated to local youth sports aide through Good Sports. The shirts are also available online at www.lowellspinners.com.
