Alumni Awards Dinner

On Friday November 30, 2007 we hosted our 6th Annual Alumni Awards Dinner. The purpose of this dinner was to serve as the culmination of our charitable efforts for our annually designated charity. Our designated charity for the 2007 season was the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Research . Proceeds from the dinner, combined with our Caribbean Cruise raffle over the summer, 50/50 raffles at games throughout the '07 season, as well as a special jersey raffle, enabled us to raise over $30,000 for the Lustgarten Foundation. In six years the Spinners have helped raise well over $150,000 for local charities.
This year we honored Boston Red Sox closer and 2007 World Series champion Jonathan Papelbon, as the sixth recipient of our Dick Berardino Alumni Award. This award is given to a Spinner Alumni that is currently in the Major Leagues that best represents the qualities of productivity, work ethic, and coach-ability. Several past and present Spinners were on hand to meet and greet fans in attendance as well as sign autographs including Joshua Papelbon, Luis Alicea, Nick Hagadone, Scooter Jordan and Dan Giese. Boston Red Sox legends Bill Monbouquette and Dick Berardino, Gabe Kapler, as well as twin brother to Joshua Papelbon, Jeremy Papelbon, were also in attendance signing autographs for the fans. Special thanks to WBZ4 news anchor David Wade who was our guest emcee for this wonderful event.
Our 2008 charity partner is the Joann Weber Charitable Fund. The Lowell Spinners along with the entire Lowell community lost someone very dear to our hearts, team owner Joann Weber to this dreaded disease. With your support and contributions we can hopefully one day find a cure! (Additional photos from the dinner can be found HERE)
